Baeksang is one of the most prestigious awards given in the entertainment industry. It wouldn’t be false to say that it is every actor’s dream to receive one or even get nominated for a category. The Baeksang also has a category for dramas and here are some shows that have been named the ‘Best Drama.’

1. D.P.

D.P. (Deserter Pursuit) is a drama about a Private and a Corporal who are assigned to find deserters. The drama won amidst tough competition from shows like ‘Twenty-five Twenty-one,’ ‘Political Fever,’ ‘Squid Game,’ and ‘The Red Sleeve.’

 

2. Beyond Evil

2021’s Baeksang Nominees were the dramas ‘My Unfamiliar Family,’ ‘It’s okay to not be okay,’ Flower of Evil,’ ‘Beyond Evil,’ and ‘Extracurricular.’ ‘Beyond Evil,’ a show about two police officers trying to track a serial killer who started committing crimes almost two decades ago, won the award.

 

3. Hot Stove League

2020’s winner ‘Hot Stove League’ was one of the five nominees. The other dramas were, ‘When the Camellia Blooms,’ ‘Crash landing on You,’ ‘Hyena,’ and ‘Kingdom.’ The show tells the story of the people behind a baseball team who work hard for their players to succeed.

 

4. My Mister

‘My Mister’ is one of the realistic slice-of-life K-dramas. It is about two people living miserable lives. The dramas that gave a tough fight to this show are ‘Mr. Sunshine,’ ‘Sky Castle,’ ‘Light in Your Eyes,’ and ‘Children of Nobody.’

 

5. Mother

‘Mother’ speaks about the sensitive topic of child abuse and is the story of a teacher who kidnaps her student to save the kid from her family. The drama won the 2018 Baeksang and its competitors were ‘Misty,’ ‘Fight for my Way,’ ‘Stranger,’ and ‘My Golden Life.’

 

6. Dear My Friends

‘Dear My Friends’ tells the story of a group of ‘old by age’ and ‘young at heart’ people. The drama was critically appreciated for the same. Other nominees for the year 2017 were ‘Dr. Romantic,’ ‘W – Two Worlds,’ ‘Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,’ and ‘Love in the moonlight.’

 

7. Signal

‘Signal’ is a fantasy mystery drama about detectives from different years that connect through a walkie-talkie. They need to solve a serial killing case by communicating with each other. Other nominees were, ‘Reply 1988,’ ‘Six Flying Dragons,’ ‘Descendants of the Sun,’ and ‘She Was Pretty.’

 

8. Heard It Through The Grapevine

‘Misaeng: Incomplete Life,’ ‘Kill Me Heal Me,’ ‘Steal Heart,’ and ‘Punch’ were the nominees other than the winner ‘Heard it through the Grapevine.’ The drama is about an elite family dealing with their young son and his pregnant girlfriend.

 

9. Good Doctor

‘Good Doctor’ is a show about a genius doctor with autism spectrum disorder and the other doctors in the Pediatric surgery department. The other nominees for 2014 were ‘My Love from the Star,’ ‘I Can Hear Your Voice,’ ‘reply 1994,’ and ‘Secret Affair.’

 

10. The Chaser

‘The Chaser’ won the award in 2013 and its competitors were the shows, ‘My Husband Got a Family,’ ‘Lights and Shadows,’ ‘How Long I’ve Kissed,’ and ‘School 2013.’ ‘The Chaser’ is about a detective whose wife and daughter meet a tragic end. When he plans to move on from the tragedy, he discovers his daughter’s death was not an accident.'
