Article: Characters From Our Favorite Korean Dramas That We Can’t Help But Adore

Do you describe yourself as the quirky side character rather than the main character?

Well, our favorite Kdramas have not missed out on such characters. Their performances, like those of the protagonists, were noteworthy. Be it a suspense thriller or a rom-com, these actors delivered some adorable performances. A variety of such memorable portrayals have one standard connection of being unconventional. They are loved by everyone and make the drama worth all its laughs. Here are some of the best side characters portrayals whom we cannot stop loving:

 1. Looney (Prison Playbook)

One of the best dark comedy-dramas in Prison Playbook. Our Han-yang, a.k.a. Looney, was the one character who added just the right amount of hilarious moments. Except for his grave mistakes, everything about him was humorous and lovable. Looney kept the show interesting with his silly faces and childish gestures. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t expect Captain Yoo and Looney to quarrel in every episode.

2. Chu Min Ha (Hospital Playlist)

The cast of Hospital Playlist is a whole bundle. It could be challenging to choose just one of these characters. Aside from the five protagonists, several supporting characters have been well-emphasized storylines. Dr Chu Min-ha is one of these characters. She is the epitome of a happy pill. Somewhere we all relate to her in a way. She acknowledges her mistakes and tries to work upon them. She exudes optimism and has an uncanny ability to make everyone around her smile.

3. Soo Ah (True Beauty)

Seeing Soo-ah from True beauty, it feels like we all deserve a supportive and cute best friend like her. Her charms were equally endearing as the main cast. She even contributed generously to the aesthetic and visuals of the drama. She is an example of a good friend who is not judgmental and looks out for people around her.

4. Han Sung (Hwarang)

ARMYS, let’s agree, V’s performance in Hwarang astounded us. This drama had the perfect style of historical production. The character of Han-sung should be one for the books. V knows how to captivate his fans with his charisma. We watch all such on repeat, from his cute gestures to him clinging to his hyungs. Let’s also not forget that this was the debut of Actor Kim Taehyung and we are always waiting for his next project. The entire cast of Hwarang did not miss any points in terms of visuals, and V is no exception.

5. Wang Eun (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo )

The 10th prince Wang Eun is unquestionably one of the most memorable side characters. With his outstanding performance in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Baekhyun won the hearts of all spectators. The I.U and Baekhyun fight scene remains one of the unforgettable moments in Korean drama history. Wang Eun should be known as the Goryeo dynasty’s most notorious prince. His playfulness was all we’d look forward to in each episode. Hopes for a second season are still alive.

6. Baby Sol (Welcome To Waikiki)

This little bundle of joy carried the entire show on her back without speaking a single word. This young one deserves a lot more credit than she is currently receiving. She has gotten a lot of attention since the first episode and hasn’t missed a single opportunity to be adored by everyone. She unwittingly became the emulsifier for the Waikiki housemates’ harmonious living. How can we forget the role of cupid she played in sparking her mother’s relationship with Dong Gu? Her presence added a whole new level of hilarity to this comedic series.

7. Grandmother Oh (Racket Boys)

Without a memorable old-aged character, what is a slice-of-life drama? Grandma Oh may have started as a cranky and irritated elderly lady, but it was only a matter of time before she won us all over with her compassion. She expresses her love for the Haenam children by feeding them and cheering them on. When things are tough, all you need is someone to lean on, and our granny is more than capable of that. Racket Boys has masterfully depicted each character’s characteristics in their distinct style, perfect comfort show it is.

8. Lee Bo-na (The Heirs)

Let’s face it; her Aegyo was enough to make Lee Bo-na a scene-stealer. Lee Bo-na is the possessive girlfriend who can’t stop herself from being charming when she’s upset. The tiny squabbles between Yoon Chan Young and Bo-na were entertaining to us. While we were busy expecting the main lead’s chemistry, these two created their fan base. With her elegant performance, Krystal Jung wowed us. Hope to see more lovely side-couple stories like this.

9. Ra Mi Ran (Reply 1988)

Ra Mi-ran, the nation’s most spirited mother, is unrivaled. She has an excellent style for conveying motherhood. Her savage attitude fits perfectly, and she played her role in the hit series Reply 1988 in an impressive fashion. She knows how to stand out among a cast of other memorable personalities. She might be blunt with her words, but she knows how to help her friends in need deep down.

10.  Jo Eun Seob (The King: The Eternal Monarch)

Okay, but Woo Doo Hwan’s double role was one of the strongest plotlines in 2020 dramas. Only Doo Hwan can portray two characters with opposite personalities. Eun Soeb is a happy-go-lucky guy who enjoys every moment of his existence. If only we had the opportunity to hang out with such a delightful pal. He wears his heart on his sleeves, unlike his counterpart from another world.
