Awards are a way of supporting the actors and actress and the entire crew who work really towards making a project, the time and effort is definitely appreciated by the fans, but awards are a way of expressing gratitude towards the real brains and efforts that goes into making an effortless movie which fans seem to love, it is also a way of showing support within the community so that they keep doing better and better with each upcoming project and win credit for the same. Here are some of the famous award ceremonies in South Korea to support their industry-
1. Blue Dragon Film Awards
It is an annual award ceremony presented by the sister brand of Chosun IIbo, called Sports Chosun for excellent performance in films in South Korea. They consider only the best of the best and popular movies of the highest artistic value, mostly released a year previous to the show year.
2. Grand Bell Awards
Known as Daejong Film Awards are the awards presented annually by the Motion Pictures association of Korea for film excellence in South Korea. They are one of the oldest awards in Korea and are therefore very valuable and prestigious, the awards are an equivalent of the American Academy Awards.
3. Baeksang Arts Awards
Baeksang Awards are Art Awards for excellence in the field of film, television and theatre in South Korea. The awards were founded by Hankook Ilbo newspaper, who also goes by the pen name Bakesang. It was established for development of popular culture and art, for enhancing the morale of artists.
4. Buil Film Awards
This South Korean Award show is hosted by the Busan Ilbo newspaper. This was also one of the earliest awards of the country, and one of the biggest ones in the Busan region. It was also on a hiatus for a long time under government censorships and the burgeoning television industry. They are mostly awards for excellence in cinematic achievements.
5. Korean Film Awards
The Blue Dragon Film Awards are the highly esteemed Korean Film awards that were first started fifty-seven years ago and has this screening process, where the final list of selected movies is screened for the public free of charge. After all the movies are screened, the award ceremony starts.
6. Chunsa Film Art Awards
These awards are also known as the Icheon Chunsa Film Festival. This award ceremony was started by Korea Film Directors ’ Society and the awards take their name from the pen name of the famous early actor and filmmaker from the silent film era named Na Woon-gyu. These are also awards for cinematic achievements.
7. Korean Association Of Film Critics Awards
It is an annual ceremony of presenting awards for excellence in film, which was first established in 1980 by the Korean Association of Film Critics also known as KAFC. This ceremony is mostly held in the month of November or December. These awards are also simply known as Critics Choice Awards as well.
8. APAN Star Awards
Start in 2012 this award was started to acknowledge the Hallyu wave and the growing popularity of Dramas, and was organized by Korea Entertainment Management Association also called CEMA. The nominees are mostly selected from the dramas airing on the major channels KBS, MBC or SBS and cable channels like tvN, OCN, jitbc, MBN and TV Chosun.
9. Director’s Cut Awards
This is an annual award ceremony for excellent performance in films in South Korea. It is presented by the network called Korea Film Director’s Network aka KFDN which is like a network of 300 Korean Filmmakers. They select winners from eight categories in the Korean Film industry.
10. Seoul International Drama Awards
There are two similar awards named Seoul Awards which was started pretty recently in the year 2017 but the SDA awards of the Seoul International Drama Awards is an annual award ceremony started in Seoul for television productions and was started back in 2006, which is almost sixteen years from now.
