Mnet Music Awards, also known as MAMA, is one of the most recognized award show held every year. The first MAMA Award show was presented in  November 1999 by CJ E&M. With various categories—including Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Male Group, Best Female Group, etc., the award show is held around early December, mostly in South Korea and other neighboring countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and Macau.

1. Sistar (2012)

SISTAR is a South Korean girl group consisting of four members and formed under Starship Entertainment in 2010. The group marked its debut with the single "Push Push." Soon, with their excellent performances and songs, the group gained quite a lot of recognition and received many awards, including the Best Female Group at MAMA in 2012 for their single "Alone."

 

2. Girls' Generation (2013)

Girls' Generation is considered one of the most influential K-pop groups in the industry. With their debut in 2007, the group became one of the most well-known K-pop groups internationally. They rose to prominence in 2009 with their single "Gee." Since then, the group has been awarded several awards, including the Gold Disc's Daesang Award, the Melon Music Awards, MAMA's Best Female Group Award, etc. The group was awarded "Best Female Group" at MAMA for the second time in 2013.

 

3. Sistar (2014)

For their song "Touch My Body," the group received their second "Best Female Group" award in 2014. The song has a bright, summery feel with catchy music and received a good response from the audience and also won the Digital Bonsang Award for the song. The song was placed at number 2 in the Gaon Digital Charts for two weeks and was a commercial success with more than 17000 copies sold in a year.

 

4. Girls' Generation (2015)

Girls' Generation won their third MAMA Award for the Best Female Group in 2015 with their single Lion Heart. While their lead single peaked at the Gaon Digital Chart and the album received a Golden Disc Award too, this song peaked at number 4 and received the Digital Bonsang Award at the Golden Disc Awards.

 

5. Twice (2016)

The Korean girl group Twice was formed under JYP Entertainment in 2014 and made its debut with their extended play The Story Begins in 2015. The group received their first award at Mnet's Asian Music Awards for the Best Female Group in 2016 and then received the New Artist Award at the 2016 Golden Disc Awards for their song "Cheer Up." The group has been awarded "Best Female Group" by MAMA four times, making them top of the list.

 

6. Red Velvet (2017)

Red Velvet made its debut under SM Entertainment in 2014 with its single "Happiness." With their single "Red Flavour," Red Velvet won the 2017 Grammy for Best Female Group. It was awarded "Best Pop Song" at the 15th Korean Music Awards. In 2019, Billboard ranked it as the second-greatest K-pop song of the 2010s.

 

7. Twice (2018)

Twice received their second Best Female Group Award at MAMA in 2018 for their single "Dance the Night Away." The song was from their second EP, Summer Nights, and acted as the group's comeback. The commercial performance of the song was one of the most powerful ones. The song reached the top of the Gaon Digital Chart as well as the Billboard K-Pop 100. The music video has more than 345 million views on YouTube, and the album has more than 357 million streams on Spotify.

 

8. Twice (2019)

Twice again won their third MAMA Award for the Best Female Group in 2019 for their single, "Feel Special." The song received a positive response from the audience and was the best-selling album before More and More was released. Feel Special has more than 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and its music video has more than 200 million views on YouTube.

 

9. Blackpink (2020)

Blackpink won their first MAMA Best Female Group Award in 2020 for their song "How You Like That." The group of four members marked its debut in 2016 and is one of the most influential female K-pop groups. "How You Like That" received a relatively positive response from the audience, The song has more than 1 alcohol-Free on YouTube and more than 25 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

 

10. Twice (2021)

Twice won their fourth MAMA Best Female Group award in 2021 with their single Alcohol-Free. The song has more than 254 million views on Spotify. The song performed commercially well and charted at number 41 on the Billboard Global 200, number 6 on the Gaon Digital Chart, and number 7 on the K-pop Hot 100. The song was nominated for various other awards, including the Gaon Chart Music Awards, Mnet Music Asian Awards, Gaon Music Video Awards, and Golden Disc Awards.
