The world cannot survive without music that is a universal fact. Another fact is that we need a diverse genre of music for our sanity as one cannot simply keep listening to the same genre. Just like hip hops, heavy metal, Ballad is a very popular genre in Japan. Japanese sad songs can act as therapy for your mood. The Japanese sentimental songs successfully can strike a string on your emotion. Personally, Japanese sentimental songs are one of my favourite genres of music. Here we have researched and mentioned some of the best sad Japanese songs we cannot mention all of the greatest sentimental Japanese songs.

1. Rainy Blue

This masterpiece, Rainy Blue was sung originally by Hideaki Tokunaga and was released in 1986. The song has been covered by many artists, each of them bringing a new colour to the song. This song is quite sentimental and the lyrics speak about the loneliness of a person.

 

2. (OST) I Give My First Love To You

Boku wa Kimi ni Koi wo Suru (I Give My First Love To You)  is the theme song of the film I Give My First Love to You, which stars Mao Inoue and Masaki Okada in the lead roles and got released in 2009. This theme song was sung by Ken Hirai. The song is very sentimental and the lyrics stay true to the storyline of the film. The film itself is very sentimental and emotional.

 

3. I'm With You

This ballad is sung by the k-pop group SHINee. It is a known fact that SHINee is one of the most loved international artists in Japan. SHINee has a strong loyal fanbase in Japan and the group regularly releases Japanese albums for their Japanese fans. I'm With You, is one such Japanese sentimental ballad from SHINee's Japanese discography. The lyrics are very comforting and immediately strike a chord in your heart.

 

4. Sayonara Daisuki Na Hito

Sayonara Daisuki na Hito is a song by the J-pop duo Hana*Hana. The lyrics of the song set a very sentimental mood. This song will surely make anybody cry because of the melody and lyrics. The song was released by the J-pop duo group Hana*Hana in 2000.

 

5. Under My Skin

This song is sung by Taemin, who is also a member of the k-pop group SHINee. This Japanese song is from the first Japanese studio album of Taemin. The song, Under My Skin, is very soothing and fans love the mood it sets for the listeners. The song was released in 2018.

 

6. Natsu No Namae

Natsu no Namae was released in 2005 by the popular J-pop group Arashi. Arashi fans surely hold this piece of music close to their heart. The lyrics of this song are that of a lover who misses his partner.

Love is another masterpiece by SHINee. The song Love is from the Japanese album, DxDxD which got released in  2016. When it comes to SHINee it is known that the group never produces bad songs and fans especially love the Japanese ballads of SHINee. Love is no different. The song is very sentimental and emotional. The group even sang the song live in their concert at Tokyo Dome, which struck millions of hearts.

This song is sung by the vocal powerhouse Taeyeon. Taeyeon is the leader of the k-pop group Girls Generation, and she has also established a successful solo career for herself. Taeyeon is quite popular in Japan and has a big fanbase. The song, voice was released in 2019. Voice is a Japanese album released by a Korean singer.

This song is one of the most epic and legendary Japanese sentimental songs of all time. The song was released by the Japanese band X Japan. The song was released in 1993 and truly has stood the test of time. The ballad song was written and composed by Yoshiki. This song was also used as a theme song in a Korean film, Windstruck.

 

10. Please Stay With Me

This is one of the saddest songs in Japan. The song was sung by Yui. The song is included in the album Holidays in the Sun. The song got a great response upon its release in 2010. This is considered one of the most emotional ballad songs of all time.
