Article: Top 10 Unnecessary Love Stories In Japanese Movies

There are plenty of love stories as it is one of the most popular genres in stories, books and, movies. Just because people love to binge watch these heart warming rom-coms and love stories does not mean there must be repetitive movies based on the same topic. Here is a list of some unnecessary love stories in Japanese movies.

1. 50 First Kisses (2018)

Based on the popular 2004 American movie going by the same title 50 First Dates, this movie explores the story of the female lead losing her memory in an accident and the male lead affording to make her remember that every time but her forgetting after every 24 hours.

2. Itazurana Kiss (2016)

This movie probably has so many adaptations in different forms that it needs no explanation. Based on the popular manga, this explores the love story of a girl named Kotoko on her high school crush and how it goes forward. Despite being a definite audience favorite, it probably has too many adaptations.

3. The Ramen Girl (2008)

An overused plot of a foreign girl Abby getting stuck in Osaka and then deciding to learn from a master chef, ultimately only getting yells and bickering directed towards her only to add to her already dull life.

4. Kimi Ni Todoke (2010)

Yet another plot line revolving around the main female lead who is interestingly feared by her classmates and everyone around because she looks like a ghost or rather a horror movie character. The concept itself is unrealistic and may be good for a one-time watch.

5. Paradise Kiss (2011)

Based on the manga with the same title, it is based on a school student who is already tired of her life and constant pressure to study and be in school, and the only thing that keeps her going is her eye candy or, in simpler terms, her crush. As expected, there’s a pretty standard plot line ahead which is not much of a surprise to anyone.

6. Jinx (2013)

A Korean exchange student comes like an apparent heaven-sent angel as they realize that Kaede and Yusuke have feelings for each other but cannot express it and sends help their way. It is unnecessary since there is nothing new to watch or feel.

7. Su Ki Da (2006)

A slice of life and a romantic plot put all together involves two teenagers who went through tragedy in their past and had to grow up on their merit. It’s not a new concept as the plot itself is predictable and we all know what to expect and how the film might end.

8. Hana And Alice (2004)

A typical teenage romantic film where two best friends, namely Hana and Alice, who also happen to be the school bullies, fall in love with the same boy. We cannot even pretend how many stories are there based on similar plot lines and the overused concept of a love triangle.

9. Let Me Eat Your Pancreas (2017)

It is definitely emotion-provoking, and certainly one should watch it. Still, again it has a similar plot to many other movies of a sick lover and the person who selflessly falls for them after not quite liking them much. It somehow also reminds us of the concept used in the famous classic Me Before You.

10. Love For Beginners (2012)

A fun watch, but we get to see nothing new. The female protagonist does not have a good sense of style yet, crushes on the notorious boy of the school who happens not to like her. Not very surprising, and we all know what the movie is bringing for us on the table from start to end.
