Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced a four-element combat system, bending. Each style develops its unique tactics and mindset, such as how the waterbenders are more defensive, the firebenders are more aggressive, airbenders have to be flexible, and earthbenders, more patient. Airbenders are light, mobile, and use competent quantities of tactics to stay out of the enemy's reach. Ideal Airbenders are pessimistic and violence-ending characters. So, now let's check some of the best anime characters that stand out as the finest Airbender candidates while showing their ability to bend and adapt to various battle situations.
1. Thorfinn Karlsefni
Thorfinn Karlsefni seemed to be the ultimate Firebender in the first major plot arc of the super seinen anime Vinland Saga. He preferred the aggressive way and was driven by anger and rage but this was not Thorfinn. Thorfinn is a dreamy youth and abominates every kind of bloodshed. The readers gradually learned about the real Thorfinn, which is Airbender by heart. He is a true diplomat who knows war and killing can never be justified and there is no glory in fighting as well as it is also not gratifying either.
2. Captain Soi
In the Bleach anime, most Soul Reapers are seen fighting using zanpakuto or soul-cutting swords rather than elemental bending or magical abilities. That means that optimum Avatar bending method depends on the personality of each Soul Reaper and a mix of speed, endurance, aggressiveness, and defense. By considering all the above, Captain Soi is absolutely an Airbender. Soi Fon was a fast-moving, stealthy ninja relying on superior position and her lethal shikai to take the advantage against her old teacher, which is a mean but fair way to be like an Airbender.
3. Nami
Plenty of the Devil Fruits throughout One Piece grant some sort of elemental manipulation to the user. Ace could be considered a Firebender, Aokiji was more of an ice aspect to water bending, and Pica was somewhat of an Earthbender. Meanwhile, Luffy's navigator Nami has no Devil Fruit but has mastered the seas, heavens, and her climate baton to become the most unique weather expert. She is an Airbender by ability, can feel even the minutest disturbance in the winds of the ocean, and can deploy air in creative ways during a fight with her Climate Baton. She is also the rogue Airbender: agile, stealthy, and feline in being a cat thief who values stealth and mobility over brute strength on the job.
4. Tengen Uzui
Tengen is a big, heavy fellow who can cut a demon's head off with his sword in one stroke, highly powerfully. That is not his strong point actually. He used his skills as a ninja to full capacity: first by doing a stealthy recon on the amusement district arc in search of Daki, then fighting her and Gyutaro at high speeds. His sound breathing technique enabled to compete with the superhuman speed and strength that Gyutaro possessed. Still, most importantly, he had the backup of his three kunoichi wives since he believed in the power of friendship. To him, Airbending is the best element.
5. Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto made a simple test on special paper to find that his natural chakra element is wind, and then he made the Windmill Rasengan. That's a good clue that he was born an Airbender, but there is more to it; he also possesses the tactics and philosophy of an Airbender, not just the skills. He's always jumping from one idea to the next, never staying with one bottle method or stance for too long.
6. Tanya Degurechaff
Tanya has that military mind and ambition to enslave nations surrounding the Empire, much like Firebenders. She is a very potent Airbender. She can do what every other mage can: dance across the air above the stalemate land battle, moving with graceful, fluid motions as she manoeuvers across a 3-D battlefield and one step ahead of every enemy. Her attitude and powerful rifle shots are more like fire bending, but aerial tactics bring out more of a wrapped Airbender.
7. Iruma Suzuki
Iruma is an Airbender monk who Gyatso would get along with. The Airbenders protect peace and balance; that makes them very good Avatars. A kindhearted young fellow in the Netherworld, he likes everybody to get along and understand each other rather than fight over domination. Protecting and loving, he can cure and work with anybody to get the job done; thus, his attitude alone makes him an Airbender. His rapid evasion-made dexterity by his quick movements-additionally defines him as an accomplished Airbender.
8. Yor Forger
Yor has the attitude of an Airbender, along with beautiful fleet-footed movements. She's heartless and awful as the Thorn Princess, but for her, it's just work, and she's grown to care little for it since marrying into a new daily. She works for everyone's peace and happiness rather than to destroy things or seek personal fame. That's the Air Nomad way, and that helps; despite her rampant power, her most excellent skill is her quickness, being a trained assassin.
9. Joseph Joestar
Before Stand came into the limelight, the bending methods of the heroes were defined by their state of mind and conventional fighting methods, such as Joseph in Battle Tendency. During that arc, he was not a monk, but his mentality was entirely Airbender-like: quick-witted, brilliant, and playing pranks on people. He's the one who, you know, ran around in circles around his enemies with homemade weapons, predicting what they would do before it happened and even finishing their sentences for them before they said a word. There was little of that in the Stardust Crusaders storyline when he merged Hamon with his Hermit Purple Stand, but Battle Tendency was his actual Airbender phase.
10. Alphonse Elric
Air isn't a standard elemental weapon in this anime, but if anime viewers look at each of their character's mindsets, Elric is quite the Airbender. During his quest for the Philosopher's Stone and later his mission to thwart Father, he was a defensive, honorable soldier who fought to save lives and protect the peace-even more so than his hotheaded brother Edward. Al is a tender guy who loves everyone and everything surrounding him using his bright brain and quick thinking techniques to try and keep up with his many villains.
