China's idols and Actors, or Mingxing, are no strangers to scandals like most celebrities worldwide. However, stories of infidelity, drug addiction, and rude behaviour rarely result in the cancellation of Hollywood Stars and may even increase their notoriety. But in China, poor behaviour, lack of moral sense, and judgment can destroy a celebrity’s career. Sometimes, the consequences may reach widely, and sometimes they don't. Whether a celebrity deserves a second chance or not is up for debate.
1. Zheng Shuang
She is a Chinese Actress who enjoyed immense popularity and love in China for over a decade. However, she has been ostracized by the Chinese public recently. In January 2021, her Boyfriend claimed on Weibo that he was left alone to take care of two innocent lives. They were Zheng Shuang's surrogate babies, who she abandoned in the US after the couple had split. Zheng received even more criticism when an alleged phone call of her and her parents was released where she expressed frustration over not aborting the children because they were already seven months old. After the revelation of these events, she was condemned by the ruling party of China and has also lost all her several brand deals.
2. Gao Yunxiang Or Gavin Gao
He was a rising Actor in China who received fame after his role in the drama “The Legend of Mi Yue” in 2014. He was happily married and had a beautiful daughter, but it all went down the drain when he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney, Australia, in 2018. Though he was acquitted of the charges in 2020, his career was ruined after his wife divorced him for cheating on her. His drama was cancelled, and the producers sued him for the damages.
3. Fan Bingbing
She is one of the highest-paid female actresses in China who suddenly went missing for four months in 2018, leaving her fans and the public shocked and worried. Later, the Chinese authorities had detained Fan Bingbing for tax evasion of over 34 million dollars. After her release from the detainment, Fan Bingbing apologized to the public and accepted the penalty of 70 million dollars. She was about to come back with the drama “Win the world,” but the project was halted because of scandals from the other main lead, Gavin Gao.
4. Li Xiao Lu
She is also known as Jacqueline Li. She is a Chinese Model and Actress who got into drama in 2017 when pictures of her being intimate with rapper PG One surfaced. The actress and the rapper received much hate because Xiaolu was already married, and she had a daughter with Jia Nailiang. While both Xiaolu and PG One denied the accusations of the affair, the truth was clear to the public. The extramarital affair cost both of their careers which haven’t recovered to this day. Li and Jia Nailiang divorced on 14 November 2019.
5. Zhang Zhehan
He is a Chinese actor best known for his role in the "Word of Honor" show. He recently got into a scandal in August 2021. after pictures of him taken in the controversial Yasukuni Shrine in Japan surfaced online, which sparked outrage against the actor. The Yasukuni Shrine is considered a reminder of Japan's past militarism by its neighbours, and it continues to be a source of concern with China. Since then, the actor has lost more than 25 deals even after repeatedly apologizing, and is still receiving a lot of hate.
6. Lu Han
He is one of the most well-known and loved actors and Singer in China. However, he angered his fans and the public worldwide as he was seen wearing a vest with Islamic Shahada on it. Many were upset because Muslim people are not allowed to wear the holy text, and to see a non-Muslim using it for fashion, was very disrespectful. They demanded an apology from the company and Lu Han but received no response.
7. Jaycee Chan
He is the son of the world-famous actor, Jackie Chan. He was convicted and jailed for six months for the possession and distribution of marijuana and sheltering other drug users in his apartment in Beijing in 2014. After his release, Jaycee held a Conference and apologized for his misconduct.
8. Li Daimo
He is a Chinese Singer who rose to popularity on the famous Talent show ‘The Voice of China. He was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2014 for hosting crystal meth parties at his home. This news sparked outrage among the Chinese netizens who took to Weibo to express their criticism and anger. Many fans could hardly believe that Li, the show’s most popular contestant, could take Drugs.
9. Yu Xiaoguang
He is a Chinese Actor married to the Korean actress Choo Ja-hyun. He came under fire for allegedly cheating on her after a video of his was released where a woman was seen sitting on his lap. Though the actor refuted the cheating claims by calling the woman his close childhood friend, netizens refused to believe him since this was not the first time he was seen with a stranger woman.
10. Jiang Jinfu
He is a Chinese model and actor. He confessed to having assaulted his Japanese girlfriend, Haruka Nakaura, in 2018. The confession only came after Haruka posted pictures of her bruised face and body on Instagram with the caption implying that Jinfu caused her this appearance. After a year, Jinfu was exposed yet again to domestic violence by his second girlfriend. Sufficient to say, his career suffered a lot.
