It is an organized concept and screening of films/cinemas. If the film festival includes competition, reputed award titles get presented to the filmmakers. Some film festivals concentrate on a particular director, genre, or topic. Many film festivals focus only on showing short films with a specified maximum duration. The main goals of a film festival are to promote new films to the public and to give established and emerging filmmakers a platform to showcase their work. Mostly the work shown is Independent films at film festivals. China is already one of the world's biggest film industries. The country has many such film festivals which are inclusive of and cater to international work. From independent films to queer genre films, China's film festival sector is well-known internationally.

1. Shanghai International Film Festival

Being considered one of the largest and biggest film festivals in Asia, SIFF got established in 1993. It promotes international participation and the Chinese film industry with awards, forums, and film/movie exhibitions. Completing 25 years of the fest, 25th Shanghai International Film Festival expects to happen in the following year. It accepts short and features films, like documentary, narrative, or animated films. The Golden Goblet Award for Best Feature Film is the honorable award title given to achievers.

2. Beijing International Film Festival

The BJIFF stands for the Beijing International Film Festival, which takes place in Beijing, China. This 2011-founded film festival, funded and supported by the Beijing Municipal Government, China Media Group, and the China Film Administration, is one of the world's most well-known film festivals. It provides a global forum for discussion between various cultural groups. Various Hollywood executives, directors, producers, international performers, and filmmakers have attracted and been a part of BJIFF.

3. Hong Kong International Film Festival

The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is one of the oldest international film festivals. The 46th edition of the 1976-founded Festival took place from August 15 through August 31, 2022. At various cultural venues, 230 films from more than 60 nations are screened as part of HKIFF each year. There are red-carpet appearances by the actors and directors, meet-and-greet events at theatres, and gala premieres for new films. As a part of the competition, three categories are available for the HKIFF Firebird Awards: the Young Cinema Competition, the Documentary Competition, and the Short Film Competition.

4. Macau International Movie Festival

The Macau International Movie Festival is an international film festival held in Macau, China. Xu Chao Ping, a businessman from the Chinese mainland, organized it. The Golden Lotus Awards gets presented. Unlike the International Film Festival & Awards Macao, it is different. The Festival's goal is to establish cinema as both an art form and a means of entertainment by increasing knowledge and growing its audience worldwide.

5. Pingyao International Film Festival

Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival is the official name of the Pingyao International Film Festival (PYIFF), which takes place in Pingyao, China. Jia Zhangke, a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and renowned director Marco Müller founded the Pingyao International Film Festival in October 2017. It is commercially operated and government-guided. It plans to highlight the work of new, lesser-known directors in the Chinese film industry and to encourage communication and cooperation between Chinese and foreign filmmakers.

6. China Changchun Film Festival

Held in the Chinese city of Changchun, the Changchun Film Festival is a biennial international film festival held after every two years. It started its journey in 1992 and celebrated the 17th Changchun Film Festival in the 2022 Aug. It generally is organized/ hosted or funded by Central Radio and Television Station, The People’s Government of Jilin Province, and The Changchun Municipal People's Government.

7. Hainan International Film Festival

The 4th Hainan International Film Festival 2022 will hold in Sanya, Hainan, China. It is co-hosted by China Media Group and the People's Government of Hainan Province, promoting the competition categories like Feature, Documentary, and Short Film. The first launch happened in 2018 with many international bigwigs, including Jackie Chan as promotional ambassador, Amir Khan, Johnny Depp,  and Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

8. Beijing Queer Film Festival

Beijing Queer Film Festival is the first LGBT film festival founded in China by Cui Zi'en in 2001 and held annually in Beijing. Cui Zi'en is a  film director, author, and professor at the Beijing Film Academy. Due to the Chinese government's media censorship's lookout and bans towards the depiction of Queer community, film festivals like this have struggled to portray their presence. But they have managed to promote and represent the filmmakers and the content regarding sexuality and diversity.

9. China International New Media Short Film Festival

China International New Media Short Film Festival (CSFF), an international short film festival that first happened in China in 2010, is co-hosted by The National Radio and Television Administration and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government. The CSFF intends to foster the production of remarkable new media short films worldwide, find and support upcoming cinema and television talent, nurture ideas, and advance global cultural interchange and collaboration.

10. Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival

GZDOC film festival is a state-endorsed documentary film festival held in Guangzhou city of China, founded in 2003. It is one of the biggest and most professional documentary festivals in Asia, and the categories follow Documentary Features, Documentary Series, Documentary Shorts, Micro-Documentary, etc. The event includes screening, competition, and seminars.
