Celebs may reside in the Chinese screenland, but merely possessing a starry essence does not protect one from the wrath of the cosmos. It should come as no surprise that fame, wealth, and high status could not stop death from taking our favourite celebrities. They are without a doubt the most well-known super stars in China, from Bruce Lee to Leslie Cheung to Teresa Teng and Anita Mui. But they all passed away at the height of their lives and careers. Despite the fact that they may have died young even before completing their 40s, their remarkable artistic legacy endures.

1. Barbara Yung

In Hong Kong, Barbara Yung acted on television. Yung gained notoriety when she made her acting debut in The Legend of the Unknowns, a Cantonese swordplay drama series, in 1982. When she starred in The Legend of the Condor Heroes, a TVB swordplay drama based on a well-known martial arts book by Louis Cha, Yung was in the height of her fame. On May 14, 1985, she used gas to kill herself, abruptly ending her career. Her breakup with the then-TVB star Ken Tong, who has been imprisoned for more than 20 years, is thought to have been the trigger for her death. 26 was the age of death for her.

 

2. Danny Chan

In Hong Kong in the 1980s, Danny Chan was a very well-known Cantopop performer, composer, and actor. His first signature song, Tears for You, turned him into a teen star in 1979. After being in a coma for 17 months, Chan passed dead on October 25, 1993, from gradual brain failure. There are rumours that the combination of his coma medication and booze. In recognition of Chan's contributions to Cantopop music, Radio Television Hong Kong presented him with the Golden Needle Award in 2009. At the age of 35, he passed away.

 

3. Chang Yu-Sheng

Taiwanese pop singer, composer, and producer Chang Yu-sheng. My Future is Not a Dream (1988) became his first signature song, and he peaked between 1991 and 1994. Chang, known as the "Work Magician," is renowned for his avant-garde music, his commanding voice, and his unwavering commitment to his musical ideas. Chang, who was driving while fatigued and suffered serious injuries in the collision, passed away on November 12, 1997, at the young age of 31.

 

4. Anita Mui

Outstanding Hong Kong singer and actress Anita Mui (October 10, 1963–December 30, 2003) was known as the "Madonna of Asia." Mui is renowned for her unconventional theatrical presence, outlandish outfits, erratic dancing, and low, alluring voice. She significantly contributed to the revolutionization of Cantopop music as the most well-known vocalist in Hong Kong in the 1980s. A versatile actress who was born for the camera, Mui was also known as the "ever-changing cinema queen" and appeared in more than 40 films in 20 years, including comedies, dramas, and action flicks. But on December 30, 2003, at the young age of 40, she passed away from cervical cancer.

 

5. Wong Ka-Kui

Because of his zest for life and sense of social responsibility, as well as his musical talent, Wong had a significant impact on at least one generation in China. The most popular songs among listeners are The Land, Loving You, Truly Love You, The Glorious Days, and Under a Vast Sky. On June 24, 1993, Wong fell headfirst off a three-meter platform while filming a game show in Japan. He later went into a coma. He died from internal haemorrhage brought on by brain damage a few days later. At the age of 31, he passed away.

 

6. Bruce Lee

Charismatic Bruce Lee, a Chinese American and Hong Kong actor, martial arts expert, philosopher, film director, and inventor of the Jeet Kune Do, lived from November 27, 1940, until July 20, 1973. Lee was raised in Hong Kong but was born in San Francisco, California. In 1954, he started studying Wing Chun with his mentor Yip Man there. When Lee returned to the United States in 1959, he pursued further studies and started his own martial arts school. However, while filming Game of Death in July 1973, 33-year-old Lee passed away after collapsing. Many theories and conjectures surfaced following his sudden death. On the set of The Crow in 1993, his 28-year-old son Brandon Lee was fatally shot by mistake.

 

7. Ruan Lingyu

Chinese silent film actress Ruan Lingyu, commonly known as Lily Yuen, was born Ruan Fenggen and died on March 8, 1935. She was one of the most well-known Chinese film stars of the 1930s, and although she committed suicide at the age of 24, thanks to her superb acting skills, she became a symbol of Chinese cinema.

 

8. Chen Lin

Chinese singer Chen Lin, 40, passed away on October 31. On the same day as her ex-birthday, husband's mainland pop diva Chen Lin passed away after allegedly jumping to her death from an apartment building in Beijing. The breakdown of Chen's twelve-year marriage to her ex-husband left her emotionally devastated and depressed. With the release of her debut album "I Never Know Your Love," which sold over 1.5 million copies, the singer gained notoriety.

 

9. A-Sun

Taiwanese singer Judy Huang Yanlin, 34, passed away on April 6. Despite two years of treatment, this pop star passed away from breast cancer. Her calming voice and moving ballads were very well-liked by listeners.

Actress Li Yu, 33, passed away on March 14. Lymph cancer caused her death. With her acting debut in "Romance in the Rain," Li gained notoriety in 2001.
