Here are 10 Chinese actors with higher education in the science stream. 

1. Li Jian

Li Jian, born in 1974, is a Chinese singer. His education is one of the few in the entertainment industry. He got extra 50 points to Tsinghua University because of his music skills during the entrance exam. He got a direct recommendation to enter that year, so he chose his profession in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. After graduation, Li Jian worked as a network engineer for a while but then quit his job with his alumni Lu Gengxu and formed a band later known as 'Shui Mu Nian Hua.' In 2002, he left the band to begin his solo career. 

 

2. Aarif Rahman

Aarif Rahman, born in 1987, also known as Aarif Lee Zhiting, is a Chinese singer, actor, and songwriter. Li Zhiting is of mixed blood, his mother is Chinese, and his father is from the Middle East. At 16, he was determined to musical dream and practiced every day. He also signed a record company. But he did not choose to study music and began to opt for a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the Imperial College in England. He acted in several movies such as Special Couple (2020), Kung Fu Yoga (2017), Fly (2015), The Empress of China (2015), and so on.

 

3. Huang Lei

Huang Lei, born in 1971, is a Chinese actor, singer, director, and model. In 2015, he ranked 58th on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list and 29th in 2017. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy. But during a variety show, the audience found that he has a great IQ. He is a master of science with a topper in Chemistry and Mathematics. He was even a teacher at Beijing Academy. 

 

4. Maggie Cheung

Maggie Cheung is a Chinese actress, singer, and songwriter. She has an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh. Her famous work includes As Tears Go By, The Soong Sisters, Irma Vep, Center Stage, Green Snake, and In the mood for Love, Hero, and Clean.

 

5. Wang Leehom

Wang Leehom is a Chinese-American actor, singer-songwriter, producer, and film director. Leehom Wang has talent and appearance, and his educational background is also very high. Leehom has a double honorary doctorate from Berkeley School of Music and Williams Univerity. 

 

6. James Wong Jim

James Wong Jim, also known as Uncle Jim, is a Chinese-pop songwriter. Uncle Jim was born in 1941 and died in 2004 due to lung cancer. He wrote lyrics for over 2000 songs for many popular television theme songs. His influence on C-pop music allowed the genre to flourish and rise. He studied at HKU and graduated in 1963 to start his career. In 1983, he returned to university for a master's degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in sociology.

 

7. Alfred Hui Ting-Hang

Alfred Hui Ting-hang, born in 1988, is a Chinese singer, actor, and dentist. He rose to fame as the 11th place finalist in the first season of The Voice (2009). Hui won many Best Newcomer Awards in 2011. Aside from being one of the Canto-pop artists, he holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and was licensed and registered by the Dental Council of Hong Kong in 2012.

 

8. Sam Hui Koon-Kit

Samuel Hui Koon-kit, born in 1948, also called Sam Hui, is a Chinese singer, musician, actor, and songwriter. By some people, he is considered the "God of Song." Before becoming a C-pop superstar, he graduated from the faculty of Social Sciences at HKU. In 2012, he returned to his college for its event and shared some experiences about his time there.

 

9. Simu Liu

Simu Liu, born in 1989, is a Chinese-Canadian actor and stuntman. He is known for playing the role of Shang-Chi in MCU's film Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings (2021). In 2022, he authored a memoir- We Were Dreamers, and was named 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time's Magazine. His parents were successful aerospace engineers in Ontario. Liu attended the University of Toronto for higher studies and has a bachelor's in business administration from Ivey Business School.

 

10. Ann Hui On-Wah

Ann Hui On-Wah, born in 1947, is a Chinese film director, actress, producer, and screenwriter. She is known for her films on social issues that include: literary adaptations, women's issues, social phenomena, martial arts, thrillers, political changes, etc. Hui won many awards like Best Director (1999, 2011, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2018 ). Ann's father was Chinese, and her mother was Japanese. In 1972, Hui completed her Master's in English Literature from the University of Hong Kong and studied at London Film School for two years. HKU awarded her an MBE and a doctorate in Social sciences.
