All over the world, people are acknowledging a third sexuality, that is, the LGBTQ community. From American host, Ellen DeGeneres to actress Jodie Foster seems to have the courage to come out as gay. In China, there are still plenty of homosexual celebrities, but they are not brave enough to come out publicly. Here we have some Chinese actors and celebrities who came out as gay.

1. Ji Mi

Ji Mi is one of the first celebrities who publicly came out in China in 2009. He is a famous stylist who has worked with many singers and movie stars, including Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, and Ricky Martin. In 2000, he founded the first school for makeup in China and established a cosmetic company.

 

2. Denise Ho

Denise Ho, born in 1977, is a C-pop singer. She studied in Canada. Her music career began in 1996 after she won the New Talent Singing Award in Hong Kong. In 2012, Denise Ho acknowledged her sexual orientation when she participated in Pride Parade.

 

3. Leslie Cheung

Leslie Cheung, born in 1956, was a renowned singer and actor in China. He won the Japan Film Critics Society Award in 1994 for his performance in 'Farewell My Concubine.' He became the first Asian actor to judge at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1998. In 1997 during his concert, he openly revealed his relationship with Daffy Tong Hok-Tak.

 

4. Kevin Tsai

Kevin Tsai, born in 1962, is a Taiwanese writer and television host. Tsai is well-known for his humourous and comedy hosting on the Tv program 'Kangxi Lai Le.' His best-seller books include Wandering in LA, Happy Diary, The Boys Taught Me To Do, and Kevin Tsai's Way of Speaking.' In 2001 during a program, Kevin Tsai openly revealed his sexual orientation.

 

5. Chet Lam

Chet Lam, born in 1976, is a Chinese folk singer and songwriter. He has released more than 200 compositions in China. In 2005, Chet Lam acknowledged his sexual orientation during an interview in Hong Kong.

 

6. Gigi Chao

Gigi Chao, born in 1979, is the daughter of Chinese billionaire Cecil Chao and actress Kelly Yao Wei. In 2006, Chao got spotted dating her female partner Sean in Hong Kong. In 2012, Chao responded in an open letter saying she was a lesbian. She married Sean Eav in 2012.  Gigi's father did not acknowledge her sexual orientation and offered $500 million to any man to convince Gigi to marry him.

 

7. Albert Leung

Lin Xi, or Albert Leung Wei Man, is a Hong Kong-based lyricist. In 1985, Leung started his career in songwriting with the name Lin Xi. He has written over 2500 songs for many singers and the Chinese pop music industry.  Although Lin Xi has never acknowledged his sexual orientation publicly, he stated to his friend during an interview- 'He could be a woman.' In 2012, he came out as gay.

 

8. Susanna Kwan

Susanna Kwan, born in 1958, is a Chinese actress and singer. She became an A-list singer around the 1980s. In 2006, Kwan hosted a singing program. Kwan married a notable Hong Kong composer, Michael Lai Siu-Tin, who she later divorced. In 2012, she openly acknowledged her sexual orientation with her female partner Willy.

 

9. Anthony Wong

Anthony Wong, born in 1962, is a singer, composer, and producer. He began his career as a DJ in 1984. In 1995, Wong formed a Duo with Tat Lau Yi Tat and published more than 15 albums.  In 1999, he founded People Mountain People Sea in Hong Kong. In April 2012, Wong openly came out as gay.

 

10. Stanley Kwan

Stanley Kwan, born in 1957, is a Chinese film director and producer. Kwan's first movie was 'Women' (1985). He is well-known for other movies like Hold You Tight (1998) and 'Everlasting Regret' (2005).  In 1996, Kwan acknowledged his sexual orientation in a documentary 'Yang + Yin.' In 2001, he won the best director award for his gay-themed movie 'Lan Yu.'
