Drama Digest

There was a time when humans and yokai used to exist side by side in a peaceful continent known as “Shangri-La” but suddenly the peace is disrupted by some sort of a plague known as the Minus wave caused due to Gyumaoh’s resurrection experiment because of which the yokai are on the brink of insanity. The Merciful Goddess Kanzeon Bosatsu orders to stop the experiment due to which Genjo Sanzo, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Cho Hakkai are headed toward the west. Along the way, they meet Hazel-Grouse and his bodyguard Gaty Nene Hawk, who can resurrect dead humans to life. But the resurrected humans have one common trait with the group’s recent attackers, thy have golden eyes. Looks like Hazel has a much bigger reason to come from the west.

The Feel-Good Part

The priest Hazel-Grouse and his bodyguard Gaty Nene Hawk are so mysterious character it just keeps you on your toes. There is so much suspense and thrill and a great and different plot.

The Disappointing Factor

If you haven’t read the manga, it’s really difficult to understand the storyline. The show just dives into the story without much backstory and explanation which just doesn’t fit well.

In-Depth Analysis

Saiyuki Reload Zeroin is a remake of 2004, Saiyuki Reload Gunlock. But this one follows the manga more deeply. This season focuses on each character more thoroughly. Hazel-Grouse, the priest, can resurrect an bring back dead humans to life- using demon souls to revive them but all humans he is resurrecting have golden eyes. There is huge tension when Hazel-Grouse and Gate Nene Hawk join the four yokai who are all charming, and the mystery unveils.

But the beginning of the show doesn’t make any sense. If you are an avid manga follower then it is good for you, but for others, it’s bad news, because the anime just starts with the story without any prequel, without any warning. It takes a little time to understand things but as you get into the story things get better.

Star Power

All the characters are well defined and have good character development. They are the driving force of the show.

Overall Opinion

The show is difficult to get invested in. overall it is not a bad show, just a little fast-paced. If you know the story from the manga, it is a good show otherwise a little complicated.
