Drama Digest-

Ai becomes reluctant to join an all-girls Kouka School of Musical and Theatrical Arts after an unfortunate incident with a male fan. She dreams of becoming the “otokoyaku” performer who traditionally plays male roles. Besides many issues of jealousy, deceit, and harsh realities of life, will Ai follow her dreams?

The Feel-good Part-

This series thoroughly shows the struggles and hardships young individuals face to follow their dreams of becoming famous performers. Ai aspiring to become a famous J-idol, Sarasa aspires to become a better singer, dancer, and actor for becoming the “Oscar Girl.” The style of art in the show is unique. It’s incredibly pleasant. It mixes elements of shojo art with a more modern style.

The Disappointing Factor-

The story’s script seems dull at some parts but is concealed with good character development and screenplay. The presence of many roles in the story creates confusion for the viewer. The show at points gets surprisingly dark, offering realistic, but hard-to-watch depictions of sexual harassment, grooming, eating disorders, and child abuse.

In-Depth Analysis-

An adaptation from a famous anime, “Kageki Shoujo!’ Opera Girl promises the viewer an entertaining and inspiring experience. The plotline is rich with action, drama, and emotion. It is a classic example of a good Shoujo demographic. It’s an acting series and has girls from various backgrounds coming together to study performing arts. That’s an unusual take on the usual girl idol group stories.

Star Power-

Ai in the story is mature and independent. She makes her own decisions and is determined enough to be what she wants. The admission to an all-female Kouka school carves the path for her dream, but she also has to deal with females with different behaviors and aspirations. The story provides flashbacks, conflicts with a resolution for each character. The development between Ai and Sarasa from start to finish is so heart-warming and is handled so well, especially Ai. Her character is well written, where at the start she struggles but she slowly opens up to Sarasa. Sarasa is patient and aware of Ai’s past, but without catalyzing much of her internal pain, she helps her get over everything at the end of the series, which is so heartwarming.

Overall Opinion-

Viewers have expressed the story to change the way one sees young girls being ambitious and hopeful for their dreams. It is well worth seeing!
