Drama digest:

This series is about the protagonist and his friends, discovering the truth behind the infamous cursed incidents that happen in a village called ‘Hinamizawa.’ A lot of horror and unexplainable incidents happen over the course of the entire show.

The feel-good factor:

The fact that the series is of the horror genre itself is the most exciting thing. The pacing of the show is excellent. The suspense of the show is well built and keeps you on your toes. The characters of the show are cute and have some interesting secrets. It has portrayed an unusual style dividing the show into six different arcs and every arc has a different scenario which is so eye-catching.

The disappointing factor:

The animation of the series is probably the only reason why the series is not a 10 out of 10. The animation gets very inconsistent during some scenes, and it’s annoying.

In-depth analysis:

The series tells the story of the protagonist, Keiichi Maebara, who shifts to the village Hinamizawa and starts in a new school. He has an extremely friendly, happy-go-lucky, and charming personality. Due to this nature of him, he soon befriends his classmates, the twins, Mion and Shion Sonozaki, Rena Ryūgū, Rika Furude, and Satoko Hōjō. A few days later, Keiichi comes to know about the annual festival of the village known as ‘Watanagashi.’ The festival denotes remembrance of the local deity, Oyashiro. Keiichi gets excited upon hearing about this as this would be a new experience for him. But later he also learns that, after 1982, the festival time is known for a large number of murders, robberies, missing people, etc. All of these cases remain unsolved to date, and hence, this phenomenon came to be known as ‘Oyashiro’s curse.’ The incidents on the show revolve around this curse. Later it is learned that the murders were suicides committed by people infected with a disease called the ‘Himamizawa syndrome.’ The patients of this syndrome would claw their throats out and die from the resulting blood loss. The disappearance of people was also not due to some curse or magical entity; instead, it was done by a girl named ‘Miyo,’ who had faked her death several years ago and had killed other people. This show depicts how Keiichi’s life is affected by all these incidents in the village he had newly settled in. There are also some other mysterious incidents taking place around one of the members, Rika, which unfold as the series progresses.

Star power:

The story unfolds perfectly, giving time to all its characters to discover things, so there is no particular star of the show.

Overall opinion:

In all, the story is interestingly creepy, disturbing, mysterious, and horror. It also has some humor. It’s one of those series one should watch out for.
