Drama Digest
“Hige Wo Soru: Soshite Joshi Kosei wo Hirou” also known in short as “Higehirou” and translated in English as “Higehirou: After Being Rejected I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway”. It is a Japanese anime adapted from a comedy-light novel series. It is the story of Yoshida, a young and handsome salary man who likes his employer, also his long-time crush named Airi Gotou. He confessors to her and unfortunately gets rejected. After that incident, his life changes and a new story begins.
The Feel-Good Part
The drama shows a sad and also romantic story of two people having a big age gap. Age-gap romances are not popular, but the show still did a wonderful job.
The Disappointing Factor
Although the show says to be a romantic comedy, it seeks to tell a different story. The story about their background and why she acts the way she does is traumatic and full of suffering. But then the portrayal of abuse and mental struggles is shallow and is not given enough importance. The show has exaggerated drama. The theme of the show was immensely troubling to narrate the happy story shown later.
In-Depth Analysis
Yoshida, after hesitating for long enough, had a final contest with his boss and who was also his long-time crush, Airi Gotou, but sadly ended up getting rejected. Out of sorrow, he went out to a bar with his friend Hashimoto and drank his heart out. He went home drunk definite and ran into a high schooler named Sayu Ogiwara. She requested a place to stay and Yoshida agreed to it in a drunken state. The next morning, you woke up and completely forgot what happened last night and asked Sayu to explain why she slept in his apartment. Sayu explain everything and narrated her story of how she run away from home and has been wandering around ever since. She works as a prostitute, in exchange for shelter to live. Yoshida felt pity for her and offers her a proposal. She has to look after his house and do all the house chores and, in exchange, she can stay with him in the house. Therefore, the story of the two begins as a bond forms between them when they live together.
Star Power
The disturbing plot of the show is due the most attention, and the VAs did not receive recognition. Ichinose Kana and Okitsu Kazuyuki played the main roles of Sayu and Yoshida.
Overall Opinion
This show is not satisfying at all. Given the theme, it could have made a great sad story, but the drawback was how they portrayed it happily. It is not worth watching.
