Drama Digest

“DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” is an Epic Adventure anime created by Ashley Miller. It aired on Netflix on the 25th of March, 2021. The anime is a 3 season long anime. The first season aired in 2021, the second season in 2022, and the third season is yet to be aired. The anime is an epic adventure anime about the story of a Dragon Knight who becomes embroiled in dangerous events after encountering the dragon and a princess. The anime has been released in English. The anime has been based on the famous video game Defence Of The Ancients 2 (DOTA 2). The story revolves around Davion, the Dragon Knight, and Mirana, the Princess of the Moon. The narrative begins with Davion, an affable man, meeting with an almost mythical dragon called an Eldwurm. This encounter completely changes Davion’s entire being from an affable man to a dragon warrior. The story progresses with Davion having to find out why he is going through these changes and why is a demon called Terrorblade, after all the Dragons. Parallel to this is Mirana, who is locating sacred Lotuses that had been stolen under her watch. The similarity between the inner conflicts of these two characters is what makes them the perfect pair for their adventure. Will Davion be able to find the reason for his being and defeat Terrorblade? Will Mirana be able to find the Scared lotuses and attain peace?

The Feel-Good Part

The exciting part of the anime is the cleanness of the animation. Although the anime is in English, at no point would you feel that it is not an authentic anime. The animation in the anime is smooth and well-developed.

The Disappointing Factor

The disappointing bit about the anime is the complexity of the storyline. Even for gamers of DOTA 2, the plotlines get too complicated. These plotlines might leave the audience confused.

In-Depth Analysis

The anime is a well-made anime that relies heavily on DOTA 2, the game. The creators have creatively maintained the essence of the game in the anime.  The story of the anime is developed in a way that it becomes a backstory for the game and, at the same time, becomes a well-developed series for non-gamers. The first half of the anime drops various hints about items, places, and beings that exist in the DOTA 2 world. For gamers, these hints become a motivating factor for watching ahead, while for non-gamers, these hints feel like easter eggs. The anime innovatively adapts DOTA 2’s hero’s abilities and lore into the storyline naturally. The anime is a proper deep dive into the DOTA lore being portrayed through satisfying animated visuals.

Star Power

The anime is strong in its casting. The anime brings to the audience a few of the most famous voice actors, who are known for their well-executed voice acting. The cherry on the top for the anime is Ashley Miller, the co-writer of Thor and X-Men: First Class, being the creator of this show.

Overall Opinion

The anime is worth watching for both the gamers of DOTA 2 and the non-gamers. The storyline and the animation keep you invested in the anime throughout.
