Drama Digest

It is adapted from the Web manga named “Deatte 5-byou de Battle”. The story revolves around a high school student, Akiro Shiroyanagi, who loves games and sweets (konpeito which means Japanese candies). One fine morning on his way to school, Akiro has suddenly been dragged into a battlefield with several other players by a mysteriously strange girl who goes by the name Mion and notifies that all the players had been removed from the National registry, that they are involved in an ability testing experiment and they are awarded certain unique superpower abilities. Akiro, by joining allies with another player Yuuri Amagake is determined to win the game with his newfound powers and demolish the organization. A new period of intelligence battle begins with his unexpected intellectual skills armed with his superpowers.

The Feel-Good Part

The best part of this anime series is that some of the scenes were unpredictable, which multiplies the audience’s curiosity. And lead characters in the series were placed well with their abilities. Some of the powers awarded were based on their life which made them do things that they couldn’t do in their entire lifetime. It adds delight to the audience in the section where Akiro uses his ability to trick his opponent like a pro and at the same time, he managed to keep his powers hidden from others showing his excellent intellectual skill.

The Disappointing Factor

In some episodes, a specific character dies and comes back alive after a few episodes. The reappearance of a character, who dies in a death game of all things is uncalled for.  The battles between characters lack enthusiasm. The show fails to deliver what it is intended to provide. The show lacks in both art and music departments. Though they had brilliant female characters, they probably aren’t appealing to the audience who would take note of that. There is a lack of credibility by the end of the season where not only the characters and plots are disappointing but even the visuals of the show seemed to lack quality.

In-Depth Analysis

The hard reality of life is analyzed throughout the series via every character, even by those who play a negative role. The story also tests moral conscience and humanity even in near-death situations. In quite interesting ways the series ultimately tries to bring out the reality of what happens if regular people are given superpowers and the extent they are willing to go to overpower others.

 Star Power

The main lead, Akiro’s unique power and featuring gave a strong impression on the lead, and at the same time, it was unpredictable throughout the series. Some of the side characters are also very solid, featuring some powerful and distinct personalities like Kirisaki, Kumagiri, Tatara, and Rin.

Overall Opinion

For those who love death and game action shows with a touch of supernatural powers and unpredictable plot twists, the Battle Game in 5 Seconds is a must-watch.
